BUS AND MINIBUS

WHITE BEACHES

Tour aboard a comfortable bus to discover the beautiful white beaches that characterize this stretch of coastline. The first stop includes arrival at Cala Pira (Castiadas), where a stop of about an hour is planned for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters at the foot of majestic juniper-covered dunes, topped by the Spanish tower of the same name dating back to the 16th century.

We then resume the tour in the direction of Porto Giunco (Villasimius), a corner of paradise where the white expanse of sand plunges into the turquoise sea, creating a picture-postcard scenery. ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOUR NURAGHE ARRUBIU

Through the Flumendosa valley road, one reaches the Orroli plateau where the nuragic complex known as Nuraghe Arrubiu is located. The nuraghe, the only one surrounded by a wall articulated in five sides protected by as many towers, is the largest known so far.

A mighty structure, built of basalt boulders as red as the lichens that cover them (hence also the name “Arrubiu,” meaning “red”) and dominated by a gigantic central tower fourteen meters high. A defensive system that could guarantee security for the inhabitants of the huts that surrounded the 14th-century B.C. fortress.

HISTORICAL CENTER OF CAGLIARI

We drive along the road that crosses the strip of land flanking Poetto beach and the Molentargius Lagoon nature reserve, where flamingos find refuge for nesting. The first stop is the hill of Our Lady of Bonaria, with the Aragonese church of the same name, and then on to the historic Rocca del Castello, which holds the true identity of Cagliari, with the famous Elephant and San Pancrazio Towers.

During this interesting walk through the ancient walls, special attention is paid to the noble Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Cecilia, an ensemble of architectural styles enhanced by the spectacular crypt with ceilings covered in 500 rosettes all different from each other.

SU MARMURI CAVES IN ULASSAI

Visit the Su Marmuri cave in the village of Ulassai, on the slopes of Tacco, an imposing limestone massif that characterizes the area. It is one of the most important caves in Europe, thanks to its size and its typical calcium formations. This large cavity, consisting of a succession of halls with stalagmite formations, stretches for a total length of 850 meters and was formed 150 million years ago by the force of water, which carved its way underground. Part of this ancient pathway has been preserved to the present day. From these caves, under certain weather conditions and heavy rainfall, the impressive Lequarci Falls emerge from a slope further downstream.
